Basically, I want to know what differences there are between the Free and Paid Editions of AVG. Is it worth buying the paid edition if I already have the free edition?
Chosen Answer:
here is some free information for all you AVG free lovers.
AVG Free contains basic antivirus protection (base level only).
AVG Free does not contain Anti-Rootkit protection so rootkits may be hidden in your system.
AVG Free does not contain Anti-Spam which can monitor and block SPAM and fraudulent e-mails.
AVG Free does not contain the new Safe Downloads & Instant Messaging protection (Web Shield technology)
so it does not screen your downloads and communication for viruses and spyware.
AVG Free only includes the Safe Search protection which provides you with advice on search results.
It does not protect against infected pages. Only AVG paid versions contain the Safe Surf technology.

AVG paid version comes with extra protection and features, If it is $40 or less then I would recommend buying it, I have used it before and it worked great on my computer, and the scans were very fast. If you are not sure about it, try out the avg 30-day trial of the paid version.
Basically, in the paid edition, you pay a lot of money for AVG to miss a lot of virus and other malware. The free version will do the same for free!
Sorry, guy, not exactly an AVG fanboy here :-p

Same here, not liking AVG anymore. Avoid AVG, it is useless in catching viruses and preventing outbreakes.
Try Microsoft Security Essentials instead, it too is 100% free, but it actually works very well.
If you open it up by double clicking its’ taskbar icon you will see certain services not in use. These are the additional ones with paid, plus you get a support service. But all these are pretty well covered in the actual browsers now anyway. All of my customers and I use it in one form or other. It makes no real difference which version, they give good protection. I always advise loading the free scanner from http://malwarebytes.org WHATEVER anti-spyware/virus people use, as it gets rid of the inevitable bad site download infections which get past the active protection at times. Keep it updated every 2 weeks or so. It does not conflict with active software as it only runs when you want it.
